Basilica of St. Thérèse, Lisieux (Vac 2013)

The Basilica of St. Thérèse of Lisieux is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica dedicated to Saint Thérèse of Lisieux. Pope Pius XI had canonised Thérèse on 17th May 1925 and considered her to be the jewel of his Pontificate. He strongly desired the construction of a sanctuary at Lisieux and so Sanctuaire sainte-Thérèse de Lisieux was born.

When you are doing your religious Pilgrimage in France, a trip to Lisieux is a must.

So our journey begins...

Breakfast time and LO was so excited and cant hardly wait to step outside :)

We made a pit stop at this area to have our lunch and....to smell the flowers :)

Everywhere we can see round hay stacks on the field very nice indeed :)

And a lot of Normandy style houses a long the way too

And finally we arrived at the Carmalite Convent in Lisieux.

here's some info about the Carmelite Convent of Lisieux I took from it's webpage at The Carmel of Lisieux

Pilgrims can come and venerate the remains of St. Thérèse in the Chapel of the Reliquary. Some of her remains have been inserted into the figure which represents her on her death bed. Almost all of the relics are enclosed in a casket underneath the reliquary. Every year on the last Sunday in September, the relics are brought in procession through Lisieux.

Above the reliquary is a statue of the Virgin Mary which is the same statue that cured Thérèse by ‘her beautiful smile’ on 13th May 1883 at her home in Les Buissonnets.

Since the works, you can reach the chapel by a pathway of inwardness which allows one to have a deeper meaning of the message of saint Thérèse.

Everythign is beautiful here...mom was so happy to see all the flowers just about everywhere around there.

At the carmalite it was so peaceful and had a marvelous time reading and praying and getting to know our beloved saint Therese of Lisieux

And the beautiful garden at the carmelite, with beautiful flowers everywhere.

And just a few kilometer drive from the carmelite is where the Basilica of St. Thérèse of Lisieux is.

Such a beautiful basilica and I have never seen such beautiful art on a ceiling like that. beautiful indeed;

Miss M enjoyed very much going around the basilica and she was explaining to the nun she met in there that she said wow and more wows pointing at the mosaic of beautiful art on the ceiling. she was so amazed that she sat down quietly and just look at the ceiling with total amazement.

My parents enjoyed their visit here too and the beautiful mozaic work was beyond words.

Family Photo #1

and finally...family photo #2

I am so glad I persuaded DH to make this day trip to Lesieux eventhough we are short on time but we still managed to visit this unforgetable beautiful Place in Lisieux.

Take care and see you soon on our next post on our 2013 Vacation!
